About Us
Since opening our doors in 2015, we’ve come a long way from a shared dream between two passionate individuals. What began as a small vision has blossomed into something greater than we could have imagined. We’ve faced our share of challenges, but our ability to adapt has kept us moving forward. Through it all, our goal has remained the same: to create an inclusive space that welcomes people of all ages, races, and genders, fostering arts, culture, entrepreneurship, and connection through food, drinks, and entertainment.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to bring even more to our community—watch for a refreshed website, expanded services, workshops, house-made products, bigger events, unique partnerships, and more ways to connect and celebrate together!
Be Part of the Build. Celebrate the Future.
It all began in October 2014, when The Commune first opened its doors in New Glasgow, NS. It was a place built to share the love of music, arts and community. It was more than a venue; it was a gathering place for creativity, connection, and belonging.
By 2018, we made the difficult decision to close that chapter with the dream of one day creating a permanent home — a space that truly reflected our vision and could serve a diverse, growing community.
The years since have been a whirlwind. Through business pivots, late nights, and countless lessons, we never stopped working toward that dream. In 2022, with a toddler in tow, we took the biggest leap yet — sold everything, bought a building in downtown Truro, and began rebuilding The Commune from the ground up.
Every wall painted, every beam restored and every dollar we’ve stretched has been fueled by passion, perseverance, and a deep belief that every town deserves a place like this — a place where people come together to meet, create, and celebrate.
We have been putting everything we have into renovations and we’re so close to the finish line — but we need a little help from the community to get there. We’re launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise the final funds needed to complete the build and open our doors to everyone.
If you believe in what The Commune stands for, we invite you to join us — whether through a contribution, volunteering your time, or lending your expertise. Every bit helps bring this dream to life.

Together, let’s finish what we started — and build a space for everyone to belong.
